The Extra tier of the PlayStation Plus has been on a streak of day one releases, and hopefully more are on the way. The Extra tier of PlayStation Plus sometimes has day one games, not unlike competitor Xbox Game Pass, which adds significant value to the service. It's not something that happens every month, but 2025 has seen its fair share of day one PS Plus Extra games.

The first day one PS Plus Extra game was added back in February in the form of Lost Records: Bloom & Rage - Tape 1. Tape 2 was added in April alongside Blue Prince, which has earned widespread critical acclaim and is one of the highest-rated new game releases of the year so far. Then in June, the PS Plus Extra 3-month streak of day one releases started with Remedy Entertainment's FBC: Firebreak.

Recent PS Plus Addition is Way Better Than When It Was First on the Service

A game that first joined PlayStation Now in 2021 is now available on PS Plus Extra with major improvements that have impressed longtime fans.

FBC: Firebreak didn't exactly light the world on fire when it was added to the PS Plus Extra service in June, but regardless, day one games are always a big deal for the service. PlayStation Plus has kept the day one release streak going with Abiotic Factor in July, giving subscribers the chance to play a popular co-op survival game with serious Half-Life vibes without paying anything beyond what they already for their subscription. Next month, the PS Plus Extra streak will continue with Sword of the Sea, which is scheduled to join the lineup as a day one game on August 19.

Day One PS Plus Extra Games for 2025

  • Lost Records: Bloom & Rage (Tape 1 - February/Tape 2 - April)
  • Blue Prince - April
  • FBC: Firebreak - June
  • Abiotic Factor - July
  • Sword of the Sea - August

For the uninitiated, Sword of the Sea is a beautiful action-adventure game from the art director behind Journey and games like Abzu and The Pathless. Sword of the Sea's vibrant art style has been turning heads since it was first revealed, and it should make another solid addition to the roster of day one PS Plus Extra games.

At the time of this writing, we have no idea the full extent of the August 2025 PS Plus Extra games, let alone the games coming in September, October, November, and December. It's entirely possible September will have a day one game of its own for PS Plus Extra subscribers, but it's also possible that the service's 3-month streak will come to an end right then and there. In the meantime, PS Plus Extra subscribers can continue playing 2025's day one releases and look forward to Sword of the Sea joining the lineup on August 19.
