See AllUpcoming Role-Playing Games People Are Excited For
As a female who loves and has been playing RPGs since well... They began, I have had to play men for pretty much all of the games. I remember playing a text adventure game (the first, I believe) that had a female protagonist - Plundered Hearts. Pirates and a female lead? I was in heaven. Needless to say, it didn't sell because males (especially back then) were the main buyers of games.
Things have changed over the years, but the stigma of males being gamers and females being - well, not... Still is pretty strong, unfortunately. That's a whole separate topic though.
Anyway, my whole point is that female players have had to play men for pretty much the whole of computer gaming history. I wouldn't call an occasional female strong lead as trying to "homogenize" the sexes. Not every game will work for every person, it's true. But just trying to give you another perspective, is all.
I could also get into the fact that this is a character that is predetermined from the Witcher stories, so technically it's not like you are really inserting yourself into the character in true dnd fashion, but there are plenty of threads out there on what makes an RPG an RPG and the subtle and not so subtle differences in gameplay and story.
But hey Baldur's Gate 3 is a GREAT game for creating whatever type of character you want - male or female, so that might be something for you to check out. It's also got incredible voice actors (some of the hottest actors currently working today), great storylines, lot's of choices that move the game along different paths, rich NPCs with their own stories to play alongside (as well as real people co-op if you want), and a LONG gameplay to keep you busy.
