Oh users will know.
This part of the article:
"Alternatively, being able to quell anxieties that shareholders have about the status of the company's new releases could provide an opportunity to focus on public relations..."
Quell anxieties?
By limiting information?
Ubi shareholders should start making calls. Or dumping stock.

That's as may be, BUT this kind of obfuscation is also something that Ubi - or EA for that matter! - would absolutely ask for if they thought it would help.
Stupid? Oh my yes. But consider who's asking for it... And has Ubi fixed or axed their Poo-play launcher yet?
I wonder what the SEC would say about this - publicly available information like this is also visible to shareholders, as I mentioned above.
Smells faintly of attempted value manipulation....?
I seriously doubt Valve will play along regardless, assuming this is true. It certainly sounds on brand though....

Given Ubi is publicly traded, couldn't this request be considered a form of value manipulation?
Shareholders deserve a clear and undistorted picture of the company's health. Often this occurs during shareholder calls - in fact I believe truth on those calls is a requirement per SEC regs. It's always been my understanding that if you want to separate out the marketing bs from the actual company intent, those calls are basically Horse's Mouth sources of information, and always accurate regardless of the company.
But between those calls, this kind of publicly available information Valve provides paints the same kind of picture in a smaller scope - the level of the individual title. So why would Ubi want that hidden from public view?
Were I a shareholder of any Ubi stock (I'm not, I don't like the company very much and am voting with my wallet) I would not only be alarmed but would be getting on the phone to anyone at the company who will listen. This comes across as Ubi trying to hide.... Something... From their shareholders.
Ubi is a game company. Why does it want to hide the popularity of its own titles? And why isn't this an attempt to manipulate the information shareholders have access to between those large company calls?
Way to send a message, Ubi. I just.... Don't think you at all thought through what kind of message this sends....
