Personally I see it as a win, I always hate time based cosmetics because sometimes people come to a game late, other times people are too busy. I get why it's done, but I've always seen it as inconsiderate and like it's locking fans out of the full experience if they don't dedicate constant time to it.

These are less cardinal sins and more things you should keep in mind to maximize your potential. Cardinal sins to look out for are more like: If you aren't the host don't capture the monster unless there is a present risk of failure, the host might still want to break parts or wounds. Don't hoard wounds, other people want to use them too. If someone mounted the monster don't break wounds, and if their ride is flying don't flash it, you're wasting downed time. All that aside, to new players, I'd like to expand on trying all the weapons. Yes, trying all the weapons is good because it helps you figure out what the choices are and pick what you'll enjoy, but if you want to not just have fun but be fun to play with, play the other weapons enough to know what accommodates them. As a glaiver, our focus strike isn't the greatest. Having gotten used to all the other weapons, I don't give myself much priority for wounds, only breaking them in hard to reach places or on guardians. That said, the mount attack is so much fun, so if you have a glaiver respect the mount, that's their unique advantage. It's a cooperative game, so learn what your teammates have to work with. Also side note dual blades don't benefit most from wounds, they'll guzzle everything in their path with almost no benefit past the first wound broken, if you want to be strategic about it make sure there's no extra wounds in your Levi path. I say the ones that benefit the most are probably long sword, great sword and switch axe.

The Veldian Mucro I can be upgraded into the Guiding Artorius, also the Artian weapons can be upgraded multiple times, it's recommended to normally get a couple sharpness upgrades and damage on the rest if you can get those rolls.
