Borderlands 4 Cut Its Most Hated Character and Suffers For It
Like I respect what you're saying, but I almost think you're missing the point entirely. We are some 7 years removed from borderlands 3, and the backlash towards the story and Ava are still at an all-time high. While I thought wonderlands was a solid game it's not like that one landed super well...and then you had the atrocity that was the movie.
Gearbox had no choice but to stick the landing here. And I don't think you're giving them enough credit for listening to the feedback that was given to them over the years. People hated going back to Lilith between every mission, that was addressed, people hated Ava they steered clear that, a lot of people talked about screen vomit, that was turned down...
At the end of the day the hate for Ava was so high and the proverbial stock with gearbox was so low, putting Ava in this game as a focal point was never an option. Would it have flowed better have they not replaced Ava for Amara? Probably, but you act like Amara being there was jarring and that's ridiculous. She's a siren, that's her connection. It's not like it doesn't add up. Her interactions with Zane are way more entertaining than anything Ava would have brought to the table.
And to be honest, the masses needed a reset from Ava. I'm not saying they can never bring her back, but you cannot immediately bring her back in a major capacity, that damage has to take time. They needed something in between.
