Ok, so I just realized while playing with two monitors, clicking on the desktop or a window on the 2nd monitor doesn't impact the game, meaning the game was still "active." I had to go into options, change to windowed mode, then minimize the game window a little, THEN click the desktop on the monitor with the game for the above instructions to work.
