I personally prefer weapons that work good on any monster so I usually go with paralysis, blast, sleep, or poison weapons. Paralysis let's you focus on parts of a monster without worrying about being attacked. Blast is just an occasional bonus damage boost. Sleep, like paralysis, can stop a monster from doing an attack and set up for sleeping bonus damage. And poison is just free damage over time
