See AllHope Restored for Shenmue Fans as Publishing Rights Change Hands
I do think that Shenmue 3 could sell quite well on the Switch. As Petar said, it may be tricky to optimize the game for the Switch (1), but it is more than possible. The specs required aren't that big and we saw other PS4 and Xbox games coming to the switch ported extremely well. It is a good chance to improve some details (dialogues fading to black just to continue afterwards, repeating conversations in some places that could be avoided with more refinement, eventually the placement of the character. Less likely to improve the fighting engine.... But if they could tackle the fighting engine, making it a little more engaging, that would be something.
The xbox port may be easier, but let's face it - not many have the xbox. A good port to the switch may definitely be an amazing choice, if we look at the market share and the types of players that use the switch. Many of my generation are more retro and casual players, we don't usually buy high end PCs or consoles, rather something the family can enjoy or we can take with us (or both together = switch). By the end of 2022 over 122 Million units of the Nintendo Switch had been sold, overtaking the PS4 in total units sold... And the switch is still selling - obviously less than two years ago, but well - I just bought one. And even with a few necessary cuts, if it's done right, Shenmue III can be an amazing addition for the Switch and might actually help the franchise to become more popular with other groups of players. PC and Playstation players are tendentially very interested in good graphis, a very refined experience... Switch players... Want a good looking game, a game that feels good and has a good vibe. Obiviously.... The slow first part in Bailu will set off quite a few players.... But those who spend more time with it.... Those who invest 2-4 hours and don't give up, will surely get to like the experience. So - I am sure a port to the Switch will be almost certain be a success if done right and with care.
