I don't know how they made this make sense to each other, but the explanation is flat. When you make a show or series from a book or game, one of the reasons is because you love it. If you are critiquing or thinking how you would do things differently, then you should create an entirely original piece. As far as I'm concerned, unless producers and show writers are making changes due to time constraints or budgets, leave it as it is. I like Dever but she's not Abby for me. Maybe this will change as the show progresses, but I would have tried for Katy O' Brian type. Sounds like people making these decisions are saying muscles mean a total lack of depth and personality. You can't possibly be complex, ambiguous or relatable because you bench press 4 days a week? I expect better.
I for one, am not disappointed. I do hope he gets a voice coach if needed. Western European actors do manage American accents well and it doesn't always work as well the other way around. I say about time! If we can have Christian Bale as our Dark Knight, Henry Cavill as Superman, Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange and the last two live action Spider-Man's be British/Welsh, then come on UK. Return the favor and give some "Yankees" a chance! May we all be pleasantly surprised.
