Yeah, that's never going to stop fans. Especially any fan rationally capable of mentally separating the original author from the animated works/adaptations. Kenshin isn't a reflection of Watsuki.
You might as well start claiming people will stop watching U.C. Gundam series featuring Amuro in them, just because his original voice-actor Tohru Furuya had an extramarrital affair with a much younger fan [from 2019~2023]. But then we have the recent G-QuuuuuuX anime, which did feature Amuro in it toward the end, and we'll be seeing Amuro piloting the Nu Gundam in flashback scenes of the 2nd Hathaway film.
The misfortune of a real author or actor's controversy isn't going to realistically impact the popularity of a series or character for too long, especially not for something as culturally impactful as manga/anime.
