This article missed the point. It's implied from Luffy and Ace's conversation with Sabo as a kid that people can probably just add a D to their name when Luffy called him "SaDbo". It doesn't matter who Shanks's mother was. His adopted father was Gol D. Roger. The entire point of One Piece is inherited will, but also that people do not inherently carry the sins of their parents or race. Buggy D. Clown confirmed.
