If there is such an issue about the insignia on the Star Fleet uniform, then there should also be an issue about the uniform. There have been continuous changes (or evolution) of the classic gold, blue, and we simply cannot forget red uniforms over the years both in the general Star Trek universe (and the original crew and ship in the movies and the prequel Strange New Worlds).
Whether we like it or not, change will always be part of anything silly humans do. Very often, there is no rhyme or reason to change. Someone wants it done — and suddenly it exists without any conferences or debate. The result is still the same — there will be diehard supporters of the change al equally resistant detractors.
There will always be people who want something unchanged — insignia or uniform — while others embrace the latest change.
Does any of it really matter in the general scheme of things
