I liked the old show, I didn't feel it was boring or unoriginal. Check out the wiki page and look at episode viewership, seems like the masses have voted with their time!

The newer doctors storylines seem more about political agenda and demonstrating diversity rather than creating a plot and characters that flow well together. The older show still had diversity (Jack Harkness, Martha Jones, Mickey). But it was fun and exciting and it was more than just a spoon to feed me diversity taglines. Bring back the adventures! The other planets! The quirky companions (oh Donna, I miss you)!
