See AllFortnite's Controversial New Battle Pass Change is the Latest in a Long Line
Paywalling early access to a cosmetic item does not inherently harm Fortnite players. Yes, it’s a way for Epic Games to make extra money, but most players (even those who are fans of Superman) may not even realize the option exists. Furthermore, among those who are aware of the feature, few will find it worth spending nearly double the price of the Battle Pass just to unlock the skin a bit sooner. According to Newzoo’s 2023 global gaming report, only 3–5% of free-to-play players spend money regularly, and those who do are typically selective regarding what they purchase. Additionally, the incentive to purchase early access to the skin is diminished, as Fortnite’s Battle Pass progression has become significantly easier over the years, making the option of unlocking the skin early more of a niche convenience than a necessity.
