In all honesty, I remember using the resume gameplay to fix a glitch in my cyberpunk 2077 game. I got to a certain part where the cutscene caused the car to crash into a pile and then my game crashed. I tried many times to start the game, but it always kept freezing in the loading part. My friend told me to try resume activity which bypassed the loading that seemed bugged and I actually got to continue my game. So resume activity has saved me a few times in games whenever something happened.
