‘Crossed a Line That Should Not Be Crossed’ Former Capcom Dev Asks Gamers Not to Buy Palworld
I honestly believe it's okay to patent game mechanics... Like the nemesis system and Warner Bros. However, that was a unique mechanic in its implementation and was very specific in its scope. What Nintendo did was patent things after Pocketpair released Palworld and only because it was successful. The US patent office failed in it's due diligence by granting a retroactive patent that can, and eventually will in the hands of Nintendo, effect many games released in the time since the 1990s or so when Nintendo states the systems they patented were used. This violates one of the core tenants of the US patent office. I can't speak for the Japanese legal system. As for those challenging the art and the 99% copy of Pokemon to create the pals... Nintendo knew they'd lose that fight so they didn't even try. None of the lawsuits have anything to do with the pals themselves only how the player interacts with them. This whole situation reeks of corporate government payoffs and unnecessary greed destroying creativity in the market. Nintendo needs to get off its boomer ass and make something good again. Be competitive instead of resting on its laurels and legal team.
