Apothecary diaries isn't a romance anime. It does have romance, but there's a lot more plot to it. The point of it was never for maomao and jinshi to get together, if the "fans" want to see romance, then they should go watch an actual romance anime or read fanfiction. And either way, since this is about main characters, maomao is a considered good main character for many reasons, and her relationship with jinshi has nothing to do with it.
