I've made similar complaints about crpgs, and my attempt to use them as a place holder game for my forever DM ass.

I'm a DM, and this is exactly why we steer players away from doubling up on one class or another, or at least similar builds. It's also what has kept me from enjoying BG3 as much as I'd like, because a lot of the characters I like have similar roles to the ones I would like to play. To fix this, I just increase party size by one or two. It also helps irl games to have five players, in case of no shows, but also to allow for flexibility in roles.
