See AllMike Flanagan's Dark Tower Series Can't Pull Any Of Its Punches
As long as Amazon can leave their woke nonsense out of it and just tell the story that is in the books, it should be fine. Roland, Eddie, and Jake are white, all of Roland's former friends, Cuthbert, Alain, Jamie, all white. Nowhere in any of the books did it mention that he rode with a gunslinger from Garland at any time, which in Mid World was where Black people were usually from. The majority of the conflict in The Drawing of the Three was because Roland and Eddie were white, and Susannah was Black. You cannot change that dynamic and expect any fans of the story to not be pissed. Do not mistake me, Idris Elba is a great actor and did a great job in the universally disliked movie the Dark Tower. The first Dark Tower movie was disliked not because a Black man played Roland, but because 1) The fans of the Dark Tower were expecting to see the story they loved come to life, not some half baked "vision" of some Hollywood director's that he wanted to make, 2) and they gave a great actor a mediocre script for a movie that was not what the fans of the books asked for.
Hollywood cannot just make their interpretation of a book into a movie, they have to make the book come to life as best they can and stay as true to the story as they can within the limitations of film. That is what the fans of book want to see when Hollywood decides to make a movie based on a book.
And yes, they absolutely have to be able to depict the lengths that Roland is willing to go to so that he can reach the object of his obsession, the Dark Tower. They have to be able to depict the brutality, the heartless pragmatism, and the cold betrayals he is willing to commit to reach his ultimate goal. They have to be able to depict the fact that saving the breakers was not his primary goal, that he, in point of fact, would have left them to their own devices if by doing so the Dark Tower would still be standing for him to reach.
