The longer it takes for the game to come out, the more likely it'll be that it'll be an overbloated disaster if a game.

It just stinks of Design Bloat and Feature Creep.

The only reason Hollow Knight came out when it did was because they ran out of money, and so they HAD to release it in the state it was in, and it was just lucky it turned out to be amazing.

But now, they've got so much money that they are taking as long as they want to, and adding way too much new stuff, and making the game larger and larger and larger until it's WAAAAY too big and will be an overbloated mess of a game.

Not to mention, the genre has moved on. Hollow Knight is great but it's now outdated. So many metroidvanias have released in the years since, many of them directly inspired by Hollow Knight, and have advanced the genre and made it even better than before.

Meanwhile Silksong is probably just going to be designed just like Hollow Knight was. But that kind of design is from 8-9 years ago now. It's outdated. Other games took what made Hollow Knight great and made it even better and the genre is more alive now today than its ever been before. And a lot of that is down to how great Hollow Knight was.

It's like the TV Trope called "Seinfeld is Unfunny". When a once-groundbreaking work feels generic or unimpressive to modern audiences because so many later works copied or were influenced by it. The original loses its impact not because it wasn’t great, but because it defined the new standard. The work was completely groundbreaking at the time, but since every work after it copied so much from it, then now it seems generic.

That's the problem Silksong will have. If it is just the same as Hollow Knight but bigger, then will it be good enough? When there's so many other great metroidvanias out there now? Even ones from non indie companies have been great. Like Metroid Dread is one of the best games ever. And the Prince of Persia metroidvania was fantastic.
