The Super Coconut Fun does have a special effect, it even says it in the description: If you hit the stern of a ship with it until you've built up the full yellow bar (like any other effect) it'll start doing really high damage if you keep hitting the stern. Basically just get behind a ship, put on your brakes and shoot until it sinks.
