Just recently started playing - so maybe the possibility wasn't there at the time of writing the article - and found out the best early way to increase movement speed for the purpose of traversing the map is to equip a talisman in the second weapon slot and turn into a werewolf. That gives a fixed +30% movement speed.

Caveat: When in werewolf form all other movement speed modifiers seem to be disabled, but I'm not sure.

The idea to gamble on movement speed upgrades by using your transmutation and augmentation orbs on boots isn't that appealling, in my opinion. The chances for getting it are just too low. Nothing against trying it occasionally but target crafting it will likely use up a lot of orbs, and then you're still running around in subpar boots.

Sadly, GGG seems to have managed once again that by and large crafting is only for endgame. They did try to shake that up a little but with not much success, it seems.
