It would be more meaningful connection if Neji was actually alive and died in Boruto NGN or TBV to protect boruto.

Neji could have been another father figure that he lacked because Naruto was busy being Hokage.

And the anyway Naruto and Hinata became a couple because of Toneri's actions in the movie. True that Naruto and Hinata had a moment but wasn't enough to push them to be a couple which makes Neji's so pointless.

Tbh Might Guy's would have been more meaningful at the time.

I'd say that Kiba, Shino or Choji probably should have died.

There's nothing really to do with them in Boruto and they provide the emotional sacrifice that is needed in the story.

Also Tenten and Neji should have been a thing. Not to mention that we didn't get the whole caged bird seal fiasco resolved.
