See AllHollow Knight: Silksong's Change in Protagonist Could Be the Start of a Formula
Personally, I really don't see the line of thought here. Team Cherry is an indie team, and Hollow Knight set them for life. They don't need to think about being profitable in the future. It's about making a game they're proud of. That's part of the reason Silksong has taken so long. I'm excited for Silksong, but I don't need 3 more games where I play as Zote, Quirrel, and the Pale King. Formulaic series usually don't add or improve on games with the consistency that single sequels do. You get to a point where you're just beating the horse until it stops spitting out cash.
Personally, I hope that Team Cherry focuses on other, smaller scope games that they're passionate about, rather than turning Hollow Knight into a franchise.
