Of course it could. That is an unfortunate drawback that comes with mods. Patches alter the source code and add additional code lines. And each time you ultra line of code you risk a cascade of issues just within the source code itself let alone mods that are created outside the studio. People are aware of this and it's been something that's been well known in modding communities going back as far as long before even games like world of Warcraft. Level editors and things like that and known to be game breaking without their own patches. So it's incumbent upon modders to fix their own mods not the game development studio to fix their game to fit mods.
