See AllStar Trek: Section 31 Reviews Are Not Promising
Section 31 is BIG, Big Sets, Big Explosions, Big Characters. Mashed together so badly that the Star Trek Fans trying to follow are just left in the dust of the jerky, hard to follow, cobbled up story. Left as a cliff hanger, (with that interesting actress I won't call out), as the contact surprise about to give new orders, it could have been very, very appealing, but too much loose content mashed into too little time. Character development, and loss of key characters of interest, ie: a certain Deltan, a character that Trek fans have wanted to see in other situations, and the wasted opportunity here, just make the viewer cringe with the loss of possibilities that could have unfolded. The first five minutes of this movie is very well done, shocking and intriguing, in fact, but Section 31 falls on it's face immediately, too big, too much to have to explain, characters so interesting, without any substance or back story is just wrong, Star Trek Fans want more. Michelle Yeoh deserves more, ie, better writing, better exposure, as we needed to delve deeply into her character, this was much too superficial a treatment of such a complex and dynamic character. The cast were all well suited, for the rolls, but the poor explanations of how they came to be Section 31 is apparently a mystery, and never fully explained as to what Section 31 is, or does. Section 31 should remain a stand-alone movie, and any spin off to series just shelved. No need for Trek fans to go down this road, as it just seems rushed, and ill conceived.
