The same argument could be made about focusing on The Shire. It was never really the main focus but they're making a whole game about it so might as well add romance and even kids, and allow the romance to be optional. It's a cozy game similar to Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon so it would be nice to be able to have a family in game.
