See AllBioShock Doesn't Need a Genre Swap, But Could Benefit from One
I, for one, am not thrilled about an open-world version of BioShock. Open-world games, almost universally, have the same problems. Too much space == boring filler content. Difficulty navigating huge area == cheats and shortcuts to teleport (because navigating an open-world is actually pretty boring). Very difficult to tell a compelling story in an open-world setting. I think the Horizon, RDR, and games did a reasonable job of story telling, but I think they still paled in comparison to even the original Bioshock game from 17 years ago. Open-world games don't seems to be able to come close to the powerful storytelling in linear games like Bioshock, Uncharted, Last of Us, etc. It's hard to tell a compelling story when the user can continually and unintentionally interrupt the story with all the other stuff (filler) that doesn't really contribute.
