Rangers used to be a great class. They completely screwed them over in 5e. I used to be able to stand back and do massive damage with my bow and then charge in and go to town woth swords. My wolf would be tripping fools left and right, scoring the rest of us attacks of opportunity. Now, tracking, worthless, removed the (easy) bow path, got rid of favored enemies. They removed what made that class great and made it different from every other martial class. Now it has nothing to make it better, other than the companion, which was part of the standard build in previous editions.
