Phantom Blade Zero Dev Says 'Nobody Needs' Xbox
It's always interesting how game sites will run with stuff like this because it isn't really news and ends up a bit disconnected from reality. Xbox has always been weakest in Asia and that's always meant the vast majority of Asian titles skipped the platform because it's not worth the cost porting to the system. And then Sony and Nintendo have much better connections in the region to push for exclusivity with those titles. This is nothing ground breaking, but it is something Xbox has been doing a lot to combat. More Asian titles than ever are launching same day on Xbox. Games people never thought would come, have been ported. What a random anonymous developer has said doesn't really reveal any new information or change anything. Though I would call BS on the Xbox being too hard to develop for, if they're developing for windows. It's literally just a streamlined version of windows (rather I'd imagine developing and optimizing for windows is more difficult but developers do it anyway because it's such a massively popular gaming platform). That's the reality. It costs money to develop and resources and publishers need to see reason to spend that money. Xbox in Asia has never given devs much (and even less if Sony incentivizes them otherwise), but it steadily improving. As someone who only really played on their PS for the third party Japanese exclusive titles, I'm so happy with the support Xbox has from Japan today. I actually don't need to turn on my PS or Switch to play my favorite Japanese exclusives even the more obscure ones and that's amazing.
