See AllMadame Web and Sonic 3 Have One Unwanted Thing In Common This Awards Season
It's not like Madame Web was in any danger of winning anyway. Most people don't even know it exists. And while I'm sure Sonic 3 is good (because they actually care about what their audience wants to see,) Best Picture always goes to some contrived, hammy drama. Not that any of it really matters, these awards have been a joke for years now. They're extremely arbitrary and hinge on the subjectivity of people who are not representative of the majority of consumers. Their new requirements are just more proof of their irrelevance as "awards." Awards are meant, by their very nature, to be meritocratic. These are just "at-a-boys" for blind obedience. Activism is the bane of entertainment, that's why companies that cram sociopolitical messaging into their product are struggling. Same for AAA game developers. Entertainment is intended to be an escape from the stresses and irritations of real life. The audience doesn't want to be browbeaten and lectured to for an entire movie.
