You're stating your opinion as if you speak for all fans, which is poor journalism (even in opinion pieces). Spike is literally a fan favourite character, just as he was in 2003. He has a very complex character arc, and it's extremely hard to watch at times. When he did what he did in Seeing Red, he literally had no soul. No metaphors involved. He was a soulless demon. He pursued the trials and immense pain to get a soul so that he could repent for what he did. He knew he couldn't undo it.
If he was human, I would never forgive that action in a character, but consider the source material. It is not 1:1 comparable to real life. James Marsters is an incredibly talented actor that brought so many layers of complexity and character to Spike. Many fans would love to see him return.
Obviously you aren't a big fan of the franchise since you didn't watch Angel, or you would know that Spike did indeed come back to life almost immediately. Also, he is prominent in the canon comics.
