Don't screw up Strange New Worlds. It plays well as what it is. Throwing random wants at the return of episodic Star Trek is more likey to miss than be a hit. There's only 10 episodes to a season. I, for one, love it the way it is and look forward to each episode. I want what episodes that are available to represent Star Trek in it's best light. Stories about the ship and crew on their 5 year mission. Levity in that case would fit with the episodic story format. Make any "mockumantaries" or parodies that were talked about as sepatate from the main show. A 10 episode season with those episodes kind of shoe horned into the season would simply give us less episodes of Star Trek that I and others were glad to see. I for one, have waited a long time for this kind of show to return. Please don't ruin it with experimental episodes. Produce any of those as stand alone events. If they flop or just aren't that good, we still get the full season of ten with stories about the Star Trek. If they are good, we'll all enjoy them, and still have the show that we all waited for. Even if it takes a long time between seasons. Don't blunt the good you're doing by going where no Star Trek has gone before just to be trendy.
