See AllWhy the Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy Should Be a One-and-Done Project
Whatever they would have done, people would have complained, take a look at Metal Gear Solid Delta for example; a straight up remake literally faithful to the originals map layouts, storyline etc (as far as we have seen so far, though impressions via interviews and previews say this will be the case). As such, it’s pretty much the opposite of what the Final Fantasy Trilogy is/will be. It’s not even released yet, but the amount of people complaining online that they’re going to be paying full price for a game they’ve already played that’s not much more than a graphical update (albeit a very pretty one) with more modern controls. So Square Enix knew fans, despite asking for it for over a decade (hype started with the PS3 tech demo after all) would have some upset, so they might as well do what they want. I’ve pre-ordered MGS Delta as I loved original, and I’m happy to play something I know exactly what will happen, what strategy will beat the bosses etc for the nostalgia, but when it came to the Final Fantasy Remakes, it was great to see extra character development, new bosses, new areas and a storyline that felt familiar but kept me engaged as was new. In the original I never really cared about Avalanche and the plate, Aerith always felt like a 2D goody two shoes etc, where as the remakes, yeah a lot of the side quests were padding, but it did make the lore and the characters more relevant which I think matters to gamers who are less of a casual player (not that there’s anything wrong with casual players, just to be clear). I also feel like the whole are you chasing or are you following of the whole reunion without going into too much of spoilers is handled better. And as for length to produce? We’ve been waiting for a new GTA since V was released in the PS3 era, 2013 to be exact, Mass Effect 4 was teased 4 years ago with still no actual details, and as for Elder Scrolls 6? AAA games all have crazy long development times, so it’s not actually that long
