The Nintendo Switch 2's Backwards Compatibility Says a Lot About the Console's Design
Considering the fact that the evolution of ARM processors has skyrocketed since the original switch was released, we should hope that the new model will have a significantly more powerful chip under its hood. With the recent release of the Snapdragon X Elite a couple of months ago, Nintendo could give us a new switch with a chip that's at least 50% more powerful than the X1 chip in the current model. If so we should see significant improvement in the graphics capabilities of its successor. I'm also hoping we see a slightly bigger display with a higher resolution and a RAM upgrade as well. Fingers crossed that Nintendo really does gives us an upgrade and not something similar to what we can already purchase like AyaNeo's Odin 2 handheld which can run Switch games better than the switch itself. Also, Lenovo's new Y700 tablet (2024 model) has a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor with 12GB of DDR5 RAM and an 8.8 inch 2k display. One only needs to pair it up with a GameSir controller to have a pretty powerful handheld gaming device. We're also getting close to being able to run AAA PC games on Android with apps like Winlator. Alas, I'm not going to bet my money on Nintendo giving us anything spectacular. My money is on the new system being an underwhelming, cookie cutter copy with a few minor upgrades. I hope I am wrong. It would be nice to see significant improvements in the new model.
