I don't understand why having "the force" in the game would have made it "about the Jedi". In would think in a world where Jedi and Sith no longer have a monopoly on what it means to use the force, other groups would step in to fill that void.

I can't imagine there aren't smuggler organizations who are desperately trying to learn how to bend the force to their own ends. I'm sure a mind trick or two would come in handy in their line of work.

I just feel like it was possible to tell a story that didn't alienate the people that come to star wars for things like the force without it just being light sabers and force choking.

There are so many worlds to shoot things and be stealthy in, and removing the force from this world takes away one of the main things that makes the world interesting.
