Paul's time as Emperor is about liberating the Fremen and his devotion to Chani (and hers to him).

As the story progresses, his struggles Increase, showing just how HUMAN he is even in his Kwizatz Haderach condition, proving he isn't evil.

So how Villeneuve fixes the damage he's done to the Paul/Chani relationship will make or break the film.

He also needs to set up the Idaho gholas if the book ending is still on the table. For me, that will be the final pass or fail for his adaptation.
