See All7 Resident Evil Games That Are Difficult To Replay Nowadays
Your view on Revelations 2 is a product of everything that is wrong with modern gaming journalism....as a matter of fact, Village should be taking the place of Rev 2. Lower budget spinoff games typically don't get thorough playthroughs from mainstream journalists but I understand as to why Triple A mainline releases do since the expectations are much higher to nail down the subtleties.
With that being said, I don't like how the "follow up" ground attack in Revelations 2 needs to be unlocked from the respective Skill Tree. The combat mechanics are more complex from the start which would frustrate casual fans of the RE mainline releases....but as the game goes on, you can unlock the "follow up" ground attack which feels very immersive & addicting. It actually takes multiple playthroughs to figure out all the shortcuts...but with regards to replayability, combat mechanics, characters, the script, and the overall writing....Rev 2 is a very underlooked chapter in the RE series. The marketing was just bad not to mention it felt like a Single A release with most of the funding being allocated towards the mainline RE7 game debuting just two years later. The only thing that felt "Double A" about Revelations 2 would be the unused assets from previous entries within the MT Framework Engine.
The antithesis of Rev 2's genius mechanics would be Rev 1....which has more turnkey mechanics from the get go....but unfortunately feels like a liability being a product of the Nintendo 3DS limitations...especially when the challenges scale as the game goes on.
