See AllBaldur's Gate 3 is Getting Review Bombed by Black Myth Fans
I didn't get to play Astrobot but I imagine based on the prequel that it backed game mechanics we enjoy but haven't had for years, nostalgia, and pretty high grade stylistic graphics.
Wukong is beautiful and its storytelling is grand but also it's a mythological retelling in cinematic realism with tight combat mechanics, which has been done well several times if not twenty times before. There are certainly stylistic aspects of Wukong that gives it a leg up and had this game released 10 years earlier it would've won but as a gamer, let me tell you, I'm bored by these games now.
Indie games haven't been popular for the last ten years as a fluke. There's a reason behind it. The old AAA formula is not interesting anymore. Maybe Bioware's old formula would've worked but no ones been able to get that right since Mass Effect so--not so much a formula no matter how formulaic it seems.
And that's my rant of the day lol.
