The way I understand it that future updates and potential DLCs for Cyberpunk 2077 are being primarily handled by Virtuos who is a 3rd party studio...with CDPR providing oversight.
This makes sense, and likely creates a way for the studio to try out some ideas for the sequel in 2077 without actually having to task any of their dev time to a game that is no longer in active production.
As long as the content is of high quality, and not just a cash grab, it's a win-win-win...CDPR gets to keep their game alive and potentially generating profit with paid DLC, Virtuos gets to expand its workforce and gives them experience developing on a AAA game without the core investment, and the players get additional content.
I'm surprised that more devs don't take this route...although we'll see what happens, if it's a disaster it may explain things.
