Skyhold was so much better than the lighthouse. It did just about everything mentioned here, and then some. The reason we don't have to run around the lighthouse looking to talk to our companions is because we have so few of them, and because they almost never have anything to say. The lighthouse feels like an outpost, Skyhold felt like home.
