It has been nearly 10 years since there has been a full-blown Prince of Persia  game for consoles, and while Prince of Persia: Escape, a mobile runner game that released in 2018, does exist, some fans may be left wanting more from this classic franchise. Fortunately for these players, there is indeed a new Prince of Persia game on the way from Ubisoft, however it is probably not exactly what they had in mind.

Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time  is a recently-revealed virtual reality escape room developed by Ubisoft Dusseldorf and scheduled to release in spring 2020. Fans will be able to experience Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time  in more than 300 locations worldwide, and it is intended for teams of all ages, so long as the team is comprised of two, three, or four players.

With respect to what these teams will encounter in this new VR escape room, Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time  uses the Sands of Time  movie and games as its foundation, and players will find themselves in service of the Empress of Time, Kaileena. Indeed, players must assist Kaileena in her attempts to thwart an evil magi who is trying to create an army of sand monsters, and success will come only to teams that work together to solve puzzles and harness the power of the Dagger of Time.

"Controlling time in VR is a one-of-a-kind experience where players will feel the power of the Dagger of Time in their own hands," Executive Producer for Ubisoft’s Escape Games Cyril Voiron says of the Prince of Persia  escape room. While some players might prefer that Ubisoft release a more straightforward Prince of Persia  title, something that series creator Jordan Mechner would also like to see, this description is sure to excite many fans, and they will be able to experience the game firsthand very soon.

To note, Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time  is not Ubisoft's first foray into VR escape rooms, and the developer's previous offerings include Beyond Medusa’s Gate  and Escape the Lost Pyramid, an escape room based on Assassin's Creed. Clearly, the developer is committed to offering these experiences, and only time will tell what other beloved video game franchises get the VR escape room treatment moving forward.

Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time  will release in more than 300 locations in spring 2020.
