The expansion of the dark twisted melodramatic world of Pretty Little Liars continues in the newest spin-off series, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.
HBO Max's newest Pretty Little Liars spin-off series is written and executive produced by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, perhaps best known for his work on The CW's Riverdale. Original Sin is set to star Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Zaria, Mallory Bechtel, Malia Pyles, and Maia Reficco as the next generation of Pretty Little Liars.
The Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin teaser trailer depicts a hooded figure as they destroy photos of the liars, while an eerie piano version of the original Pretty Little Liars theme song plays on a loop in the background. “Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart. Now, in the present day, a disparate group of teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown Assailant and made to pay for the secret sin committed by their parents two decades ago as well as their own," reads the official synopsis. "In the dark, coming-of-age, horror-tinged drama Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, we find ourselves miles away from Rosewood, but within the existing Pretty Little Liars universe — in a brand-new town, with a new generation of Little Liars.”
This is a similar premise to the original Pretty Little Liars show and the book series of the same name that it's based on, written by author Sara Shepard. Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is set to hit HBO Max later this summer on July 28th with the release of three episodes. Then, on August 4 and 11, two more episodes will follow, with the series conclusion coming on August 18 with the final 3 episodes to wrap up the ten-episode season.
With the massive success the original Pretty Little Liars had during its seven-season run on Freeform from 2010 to 2017, the show's creators have been trying to recreate that success. With past spin-off series like Ravenswood and The Perfectionists falling flat after only one season, Original Sin has some very big shoes to fill, considering the past history of Pretty Little Liars reboots. However, with a new team behind the spin-off and a fresh new story that doesn’t entirely lean on cameo appearances and past storylines, Original Sin has a fighting chance to be a massive success.
As the release of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin rapidly approaches, die-hard fans of the franchise are extremely excited and hoping that Aguirre-Sacasca will do the beloved world of Pretty Little Liars justice in his new adaptation.
