Both the Alien and Predator franchises are pillars of science fiction and horror films. Alien debuted with the first film, Alien, in 1979, directed by Ridley Scott. It introduced a deadly extraterrestrial creature, the Xenomorph. It was a success that it spawned several sequels, including Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992), Alien: Resurrection (1997), Prometheus (2012), Alien: Covenant (2017), and A lien: Romulus (2024). The Predator franchise made its entry with the Predator movie in 1987, directed by John McTiernan. It follows Major Dutch and his elite military team as they are hunted by a technologically advanced alien in the Central American jungle. It was also very successful and spawned several sequels: Predator 2 (1990), Predators (2010), The Predator (2018), and Prey (2022). Predator 2 features a Xenomorph skull in its trophy case, hinting at its shared universe. Eventually, fans got the anticipated Alien vs Predator crossover — Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007). The latest trailer for Predator: Badlands teases another crossover.

June 6 Is Going To Be A Great Day For Predator Fans

Predator fans are in for a treat on June 6 as a fresh new installment in the franchise drops on Hulu.

20th Century Studios dropped a teaser trailer for Predator: Badlands on Wednesday. The opening scene features a trophy room with an alien head from Independence Day. Also called the Harvesters, these extraterrestrial beings are highly intelligent and technologically advanced. They invaded Earth to use the planet's resources, and they nearly extinguished humanity. The trailer also features Fanning's Thia being tied up in what appears to be a tree, and her eyes display the Weyland-Yutani logo stylized as W and Y. The distinctive emblem from the Alien franchise first appeared in the 1979 Alien movie. The Weyland-Yutani logo signifies the company's pervasive influence and technological ambition with corporate dominance. The same logo seems to appear on the shoulder of her suit. Many took this as confirmation that she's a Weytani-Yutani android. The logline that comes along with the trailer reads:

[Predator: Badlands] is set in the future on a remote planet, where a young Predator (Schuster-Koloamatangi), outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary.

The teaser received praise from fans, who were pleased that a Predator was finally the main protagonist. According to them, it's about time to show the Predator in this light. In the trailer, Thia is telling the young Predator, Dek, that he is "hunting something that can't be killed." Then it cuts to a scene where a massive beast faces the Predator, and the latter screams. Fans were delighted to witness such facial expressions from the Predator. Another thing that many love about it is how the Predator seemingly roams around the galaxy to search for trophies. Many approve this because the human versus predator plot no longer works for them. Predator: Badlands is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the same man behind Prey and Predator: Killer of Killers. Trachtenberg produces the film with John Davis, Marc Toberoff, Ben Rosenblatt, and Brent O'Connor.

Predator: Badlands

Predator: Badlands stirred excitement among fans, especially after watching the trailer. The Weyland-Yutani logo, in particular, seemingly suggests a deliberate crossover between the two universes — Predator and Alien. What makes it even more appealing is that the android Thia is an ally to the young predator, a huge shift from the traditional adversarial dynamics. This promises a more enriching storyline with complex character interactions. Predator: Badlands could explore Dek's journey from an outcast to a hero and Thia's evolution from an android to a compassionate ally. This is definitely a fresh take for the franchise, and many can't wait to see how far the journey will bring them together.

Predator: Badlands hits theaters on November 7, 2025.
