- Inspired by 90s beat-em-up games, players can use Power weapons and Dinozords to battle Robo-Rita.
Hasbro and Digital Eclipse revealed that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind will be released on December 10 on all major platforms. The development team of Rita's Rewind shared the date with a new gameplay trailer that showcased different levels and confirmed that preorders are now available.
The news arrived almost five months after Rita's Rewind was revealed during Summer Game Fest. Taking inspiration from beat-em-up titles of the 90s, Rita's Rewind will give fans a chance to play as the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Jason, Billy, Trini, Zack, and Kimberly. In addition to the Rangers, various Power weapons and Dinozords can be used to take the fight to Rita Repulsa and her horde of monsters. The game's true villain is the time-traveling Robo-Rita, a robotic clone of Rita from the Netflix special Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once And Always, who will stop at nothing to defeat the Rangers.
Power Rangers: 13 Strongest Red Rangers
The Red Rangers are the leaders of their respective Power Rangers teams and must be strong enough to shoulder hefty combat and decision-making duties.
However, Power Rangers fans will not have to wait much longer to play Rita's Rewind. In a new trailer that lasted under two minutes, Digital Eclipse and Hasbro confirmed that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind would be released on Tuesday, December 10, on all major platforms with a starting price of $34.99. The Steam version of Rita's Rewind currently has a 15% discount, which takes the price down to $29.74. The trailer starts with Rita emerging from her prison on the moon as a parallel to the original intro of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers TV show. The trailer then shows Robo-Rita's appearance through a time portal, as she points her staff at the command center. The original five Rangers then spring into action, as the trailer shares 2D beat-em-up sequences and vehicle levels that feature the Dinozords.
When Will Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind Be Released?
- Tuesday, December 10
The trailer also showed that Tommy Oliver, the Green Ranger, will be part of the game's main story on the side of Robo-Rita. This follows what happened during the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, as Tommy was under a mind-control spell via an evil sword that Rita crafted. In a climactic duel between the Red and Green Rangers, Jason disarmed Tommy and destroyed the sword with his Power Blaster, which broke the spell and freed Tommy from Rita's clutches. Tommy will join the squad after players beat the main campaign.
Inspired by 90s arcade hits, Rita's Rewind is filled with nostalgic callbacks that longtime Power Rangers fans may recognize. How it will fare compared to other Power Rangers games remains to be seen.
