Power Rangers is one of the most popular long-running superhero franchises today, based on the equally popular Japanese Super Sentai series, and heavily featuring a great deal of the Japanese footage within Power Rangers. One of the most popular parts of the show are the Zords. Each Power Ranger has a designated Zord, and some are certainly better than others.

Every Power Rangers team is assigned a thematically appropriate group of Zords. These Zords can sometimes make or break a franchise's popularity. Many fans were displeased with Mystic Force's original showing, until they released the Mystic Zords. Nearly every Zord is distinct and somewhat interesting, but only a few deserve some serious recognition.

Power Rangers: RPM

Vehicle-based Zords are among the most divisive for Power Rangers fans. Many fans prefer the typical animal-based format, while others prefer strictly vehicle-type Zords. The RPM Red EagleRacer does its best to appeal to both sides of the argument. It is clearly based on a high-octane Race Car, but has an equally intense eagle motif.

The Black Rangers typically serve as the Red Rangers' second-in-command and are often one of the most popular rangers of any given series.

The Red EagleRacer strikes a balance that many iterations struggle to follow. In addition to appealing to a majority of the fanbase, the RPM Red Ranger's Zord is astoundingly powerful. The Zord even possesses the ability to fly, which is somewhat expected with it's eagle-spirit. Nevertheless, the Red EagleRacer serves as one of the earliest compromises between animal and vehicle Zord archetypes.

9 The Gosei Shark Mechazord Is the Best Shark Zord in the Series

Power Rangers: Megaforce

The Gosei Zords aren't necessarily the most popular, but they are some of the most accessible. Instead of being a full Zord, the Gosei Zords are portable cockpits which merge with real world technology to fully form. The Gosei Shark Mechazord is technically just a submarine, but with some serious upgrades. In addition to powerful torpedoes, the Shark Mechazord possesses an incredible bite attack.

The Blue Rangers are often some of the best supports on any given Power Rangers team, but some are far more popular (and better) than others.

1

The Gosei Shark Mechazord is easily the best looking of the Shark-based Zords, and is also the fastest. The Shark Mechazord has a recorded speed of over 150 knots km/h which is around the speed a plane reaches to take flight. Ultimately, the Shark Mechazord suffers due to its relatively lackluster Power Rangers iteration. If the Shark Mechazord featured in any other Power Rangers season, it would easily be the most popular of the iteration.

8 The Blue Dragon Foldingzord Is a Clever Take on a More Restrictive Style

Power Rangers: Samurai

The Blue Dragon Foldingzord is among the most controversial in Zord history. Many fans hate the very clearly toy-inspired elements the Power Rangers Samurai Zords seem to employ. That said, there's a very clear standout among the classic Samurai Zords. Kevin's Blue Dragon Foldingzords is one of the coolest looking Dragonzords in the series, aside from the original. It also has the ability to spit blue fire, which is supposed to have the highest temperature.

Many fans' biggest complaint with the Dragon Foldingzord, aside from its toy-like design, is the context. They don't believe that the Blue Dragon perfectly fits Kevin's water element, and believe he should've had the swordfish Zord from the beginning. There is definitely some truth to this claim, but many fantasy stories include tales about water dragons. Is it really so outlandish for Power Rangers to do the same?

7 The Cosmic Scorpion Zord is the Only Orange Zord in Power Rangers History

Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury

The Cosmic Scorpion Zord is cool for a plethora of reasons. It is one of the only Zords in the series to employ venom, and is the second Orange Zord in history. The Scorpion Zord's venom obviously isn't deadly, but it possesses the power to immobilize its opponents, preventing them from fighting. The standout Zord also has powerful claws capable of pinching or holding its enemies in place.

The Orange Zord is based off a walking tank, making it incredibly sturdy. It might not feature in as many episodes as competing Zords, but as far as Arachnid-based Zords go, The Cosmic Scorpion Zord is simply the best and also the only. Hopefully, more Power Rangers iterations take a swing at more insect-based Zords. Until then, The Cosmic Scorpion Zord easily takes the top spot.

6 The Mystic Firebird Makes the Mystic Force Red Ranger More Powerful Than Ever

Power Rangers: Mystic Force

When Power Rangers Mystic Force first aired, many fans were unhappy with the humanoid Zords. It was a swing and a miss for the extremely popular series. The showrunners would fix this mistake when adding the popular additional Mystic Zords. The most popular and powerful of which is easily the Mystic Firebird. The Zord not only gives the Red Mystic Ranger an incredibly cool power-up, but is insanely powerful in its own right.

The Zord not only possesses the power of flight, but can unleash some fearsome firepower. It is also one of the two key factors needed for the Manticore Megazord, one of the coolest and most powerful Megazord iterations in the franchise. It travels at incredibly high speeds and is one of the reasons the Red Mystic Ranger is such a formidable opponent. That said, there are certainly faster and more powerful Zords.

5 The Samurai Star Chopper is an Interesting Balance Between Vehicle and Animal Styles

Power Rangers: Ninja Storm

The Samurai Star Chopper is another Zord addition which toes the line between animal and vehicle-based. Although the vehicle is clearly based on a combat helicopter, it features a great deal of bird imagery. The Star Chopper has additional drones which can be piloted remotely, and even possesses the ability to become its own Megazord. Only a few Zords in the series hold this power, and it is a clear representation of Cam's strength as a Ranger.

As a Megazord the Samurai Star Chopper uses its rotary blade as a giant shuriken. Cam can also choose to combine the Samurai Star Chopper with the existing Storm Megazord to form the Samurai Storm Megazord. This provides the Storm Megazord with some incredible wind-based powers, but somewhat limits its mobility. The Samurai Star Chopper is certainly powerful, but only features in a handful of episodes compared to its mainline companions.

4 The Wolf Animal Spirit is The Best of the Wolf-Based Zords

Power Rangers: Jungle Fury

The Wolf Animal Spirit is an incredibly powerful and cool Zord, as well as one of the fastest in the series. Its bladed tale is capable of cutting through most of the series' various enemies. The Wolf Zord can even take the place of the Cheetah Animal Spirit Zord to form the Wolf Pride Megazord. The Wolf Spirit can also be used with the Bat, Elephant, or Shark Spirit powers.

The Wolf Spirit might not seem like an incredibly powerful Zord, but based on speed alone, it is one of the best. It outclasses many of the original and even some of the newer Zords and then some. Its incredible speed coupled with its capable pilot, make it one of the most formidable Zords in the entire franchise. Sadly, it wasn't given the same practical treatment that other Zords receive, even in the modern day.

3 The DinoThunder Tyrannozord Is Even Cooler Than its Tyranosaurus Predecessors

Power Rangers: Dino Thunder

The Dino Thunder Tyrannozord is one of many Red Tyrannosaurus-based Zords, but it is undeniably the coolest. It's powerful drilling tail isn't even the Zords coolest feature. It might be on the slow side compared to some Zords, but it is one of the most iconic in the entire series. The Tyrannozord alone is what brought many classic fans back to the series after so many years.

These are the strongest characters ever to earn the title of White Ranger, granting them powerful abilities and making them formidable Power Rangers.

The Red Tyrannozord is the main body of the Dino Thunder Megazord and can form with several other Zords to form different Megazord variations. All in all, the Dino Thunder MVP remains one of the most popular Zords in the entire series. Many fans wish the series would return to this style with a slightly more practical effects-based approach. Nevertheless, it remains one of the most powerful of the popular Zords.

2 The Red Lion Wildzord Marks the Pinnacle the Series Continues to Strive Towards

Power Rangers: Wildforce

The Red Lion Wildzord is profoundly interesting because it is technically alive. The Red Wild Force Ranger initially must convince the beast to work with him before their partnership can actually begin. That said, once their collaboration truly starts, it becomes one of the best partnerships in Power Rangers history. Many fans consider the Red Lion Wildzord one of the most powerful of all time, and it is regularly re-used in seasons where the Rangers have access to previous powers via the morphing grid.

The Pink Ranger is typically an often overlooked member of the team, but that doesn't stop them from being absolute assets when push comes to shove.

The fact that the Red Lion Widlzord is so popular it was brought back in Super Megaforce says a lot. The series is meant to be a love letter to the fans, so the fact that they include the Zord so much is only a testament to its popularity. The Red Lion WildZord's new appearances also imply the Lion is far more modular than it once seemed. If the Wild Force Rangers had truly acquired the Zord's full potential, they might've been unstoppable.

1 Tommy Oliver's Dragonzord is One of the Coolest in the Original Series

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

When the Green Ranger was first introduced, his appearance shook the entire series. Fans weren't sure what to expect from this decidedly cooler and formidable foe. Then Tommy Oliver would make a core memory for fans everywhere by summoning the powerful Dragonzord. Although the titan is called a dragon, it clearly takes inspiration from one of Japan's favorite franchises, Godzilla. To this day, the Dragonzord remains one of the most powerful and iconic Zords in the franchise.

Tommy Oliver is the strongest Ranger in the entire series, so it makes sense that his main Zord is also one of the most powerful. The beast is inanely slow, but it packs a powerful punch. All in all, the Zord could easily be scaled to its inspiration, Godzilla. There might not be much Dragon-esque about the Zord, but that doesn't mean it isn't as powerful as stated.
