Power Rangers is an American adaptation of the popular Super Sentai series. The original rangers had several distinct colors, with Black being among them. The Black Rangers typically serve as the Red Rangers' second-in-command and are often one of the most popular rangers of any given series.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Complete Series - DVD
The iconic Tommy Oliver even dons the Black Ranger gear at one point. Although his role is more of a mentor position, he is still part of many of Power Rangers Dino Thunder's most important fights. Since the original Mighty Morphin' Black Ranger, Zack Taylor, many rangers have taken up the mantle of the Black Ranger. However, only a handful of his successors find the same notoriety during their careers.
10 Chase Randall Was Technically the First of the Dino Charge Rangers
Power Rangers: Dino Charge
Chase Randall is the first of the Dino Charge rangers to morph into a Dino Charge Ranger. After saving a stranger's cat, he is given the Black Energem and quickly discovers its unusual properties. Like many Black Rangers before him, Randall is primarily focused on his appearance and others' perception of him. Unlike some of his predecessors, he doesn't let his role in the Rangers consume him and develops a relatively normal lifestyle after his tenure with the team is over.
Power Rangers: 8 Strongest Purple Rangers, Ranked
There aren't too many Purple Power Rangers in the franchise but these are the strongest of the bunch.
Like the other Dino Charge Rangers, Randall has a variety of epic power-ups and transformations. He even has several abilities exclusive to both him and the Red Dino Charge Ranger. His familiarity with the Dino Charge morphing grid definitely gives him an advantage over his teammates, but he is far from the most popular or powerful Dino Charge Ranger.
9 Jake Holling Has Access to the Powers of Each of His Predecessors
Power Rangers: MegaForce
Jake Holling's main priority, aside from being a ranger, is confessing his feelings for fellow ranger Gia Moran. This attitude can benefit and disparage the team as it often causes Holling to act solely to win Mia's favor. Like the other MegaForce Rangers, Jake has access to the powers and abilities of every previous Black Ranger before him. This makes him one of the strongest of his color, but not necessarily one of the best.
Best Power Rangers Series, Ranked
From the Mighty Morphin to Ninjas and Samurai, the best Power Rangers seasons offer great mecha action and awesome characters,
What qualifies Jake Holling for the most commendation is his durability. There are several times in MegaForce and in Super MegaForce where Jake is the last ranger left standing. This makes somewhat sense as the Black Ranger's Zords have always been somewhat bulky. Yet, Holling definitely brings a unique light-hearted energy to the role that calls back to his predecessors while maintaining his own unique identity.
8 Will Aston's Cooler-Than-Everyone Front is Only a Mask
Power Rangers: Overdrive
Will Aston is one of the coolest Rangers in the franchise's history. Sadly, his attitude is extremely off-putting and can often put his Power Rangers team in danger. He has trouble working as part of a group and typically prefers to be the center of attention. He overcomes these issues for the most part, but they plague him throughout his entire adaptation.
Aston even attempts to resign during the height of his career. He might be a teenager, but his lack of maturity is somewhat grating at times. He always manages to get the job done, in his own unique way, but not before failing at the original task at least once. Aston is a capable Ranger, but he could be so much more if he could just work as part of a team.
7 Javi Garcia Is One of the Strongest of the Modern Rangers
Power Rangers: Dino Fury
Javi Garcia is the Dino Fury Black Ranger and one of the strongest modern rangers in the franchise. Garcia's strength has a lot to do with the stakes the Dino and Cosmic Fury Rangers face on a regular basis. Garcia is one of the few Rangers able to go toe-to-toe with the formidable Lord Zedd and live to tell the tale. Aside from being a Ranger, Garcia is a talented musician, which is an apparently common talent among Rangers.
Garcia, like many of the most popular Black Rangers, is the strong, silent type. His family actively discourages his passion for music, which provides the character with a lot of emotional turmoil. Although this passion is occasionally exploited, it hasn't prevented him from being a valuable member of the team. He is one of the few Rangers to maintain his color between adaptations which only affirms his association with the iconic Ranger color.
6 Tommy Oliver Acts as an Excellent Mentor For the Dino Thunder Rangers
Power Rangers: Dino Thunder
Tommy Oliver is the greatest Power Ranger of all time. He is the longest serving, and has been in more adaptations than any other character in the series. One of his most iconic roles is as the Dino Thunder Black Ranger. He begins as the team's mentor, but returns to the morphing grid once again to save his new team.
Even without a morpher, Oliver possesses the raw strength to kick a T. Rex in the face. This is a feat that few other Rangers share and is a small testament to his skills and power. With Tommy Oliver on the team, it becomes clear why the Dino Thunder Rangers didn't need many additional members. They have one of the smallest groups in the franchise, but make up for it with Raw Power.
5 Danny Delgado Never Gives Up
Power Rangers: Wild Force
Danny Delgado doesn't fall into the typical Black Ranger archetype, which is what makes him so beloved. In many ways, Delgado is the quintessential gentle giant character. He possesses immense strength, but nearly equal anxiety. Delgado even sleeps with a teddy bear. That said, his character comes an extremely long way from his quiet flower shop origins.
Delgado is one of the few Wild Force Rangers shown with the ability to understand their words. This ability doesn't happen frequently but proves just how unique Danny is in the grand scheme of things. Although he might share the same surname name with future S.P.D. Z Delgado, this has never been confirmed, and most fans assume it is nearly a coincidence. Nevertheless, he remains the most positive and unique of all the Black Power Rangers.
4 The Phantom Ranger's True Identity Is Never Actually Revealed
Power Rangers: Turbo
The Phantom Ranger is without a doubt the most mysterious character in Power Rangers history, especially the Zordon era. He never removes his helmet, and his true identity is never actually revealed within the franchise. The showrunners originally intended to make Billy Cranston the official man under the mask, but this was never brought into the canon. That said, he fights alongside the In Space iteration of the Power Rangers.
Although he isn't a typical Black Ranger, due to his color scheme, he is often labeled as one. He is one of the few rangers with the power to become invisible and often uses it to devastating effect. He assists the Power Rangers Turbo and In Space teams, but hasn't appeared again in official media. Many fans hoped he might return in Power Rangers: Megaforce but were sorely disappointed.
3 Adam Park Takes Over For the Original Mighty Morphin Black Ranger
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
Adam Park takes over for Zack Taylor after he takes a brief hiatus from his Ranger career. Park is also a prominent member of the Zeo team, which is how he is usually remembered. He is still an extremely important character in the continuity. Although he typically serves more of a supporting role than anything else. Park, like many other notable rangers, would return for the "Legendary Battle" in Power Rangers Megaforce.
9 Strongest White Rangers In Power Rangers
These are the strongest characters ever to earn the title of White Ranger, granting them powerful abilities and making them formidable Power Rangers.
Park also has a minor role during the special Power Rangers: Forever and Always, but many fans feel it falls short of the character's potential. Adam will always be remembered as the Green Zeo Ranger, but he certainly upheld the legacy left by Zack Taylor. He might not share his predecessors' popularity, but he definitely shares his passion.
2 Carlos Vallerte Is One of the Few Green and Black Rangers in the Franchise
Power Rangers: In Space
Carlos Vallerte is the direct successor of Adam Park, and arguably a fair bit more popular. Park suffered due to taking over directly for Zack Taylor, which put a slight damper on his career. That said, Vallerte has more than proven himself a successful Black Ranger in his own right. He is one of the first faces fans see in a new era, and does a great job welcoming in the new for the franchise.
10 Strongest Villains In Power Rangers History, Ranked
The Power Rangers have faced some fearsome foes over the course of the franchise, but these are by far the most formidable.
Vallerte demonstrates a similar character arc to many of the other Black Power Rangers. He struggles to work as a team player and typically only thinks of himself. However, Vallerte's transition to an avid member of the group is more apparent than others who share his fate. He is many fans' favorite non-Red Ranger and remains one of the best to wear the iconic original color.
1 Zack Taylor Is the Original Mighty Morphin Ranger's Second-In-Command
Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
Zack Taylor is the original Black Power Ranger and easily the most iconic. He starts the series as Jason Lee Scott's second-in-command, but remains a respected member of the team throughout. He would eventually retire from the role to attend a peace summit, but would return in special, Power Rangers Now and Forever and subsequent appearances. Usually, if the Black Mighty Morphin' Ranger appears, its Zack Taylor.
Taylor is one of the most competent martial artists in the series and his abilities even rival Tommy Oliver's and Jason Lee Scott's at certain points. He creates his own fighting style and is an absolute force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. He is a beloved franchise figure and one of the main reasons Rita Repulsa never successfully takes over the earth.
