Postal 2 VR has been announced for modern virtual reality platforms, though a release date has not been revealed yet. The infamous Postal 2 was originally released in the early 2000s but received backlash because of its violent content.
The Postal video game series launched its first title in 1997 as a third-person shooter filled with dark humor, and the saga continued launching more entries until 2022 with Postal: Brain Damaged. Out of all Postal games, however, Postal 2 is arguably the most memorable. Released in 2003 by the series creator Running with Scissors, Postal 2 is a first-person open-world shooter that is now considered a cult classic even though it was highly criticized back in the day. Players might remember the backlash that Postal 2 received because of its level of violence and portrayal of stereotypes. Now, the game is not only making a comeback but it is getting revamped for virtual reality headsets.
Xbox Co-Creator Comments on Virtual Reality
One of the co-creators of the original Xbox console discusses virtual reality, sharing a number of criticisms regarding the medium.
Beef Studios has teamed up with Running with Scissors and Flat2VR Studios to make Postal 2 VR a reality. As confirmed by developers, Postal 2 VR will land on PS VR2, Meta Quest 2 and 3, and Steam VR. Fans can already add the game to their Steam Wishlist, but no release date has been confirmed yet. As seen in Postal 2 VR's announcement trailer, players will once again step into the shoes of the Postal Dude, who has a week's worth of chores to complete in the town of Paradise, Arizona. It is up to players whether they check off their to-do lists peacefully or wreak havoc around town. "The game has been completely rebuilt for VR with manual reloading, dual-wielding, and physics-driven melee combat, an overhauled inventory and UI, and more," said Flat2VR's marketing and PR specialist Wes Dillon. "Chaotic, offensive, and endlessly entertaining, Postal 2 VR is an unhinged VR playground like no other." While the jump to VR is a big step for the Postal franchise, the original Postal 2 never disappeared from fans' radars. In 2023, Postal 2 received an important update for its twentieth anniversary, showing the developers' commitment to the game.

Like in the original title, Postal 2 VR will let players perform actions, like setting buildings on fire, using cats as gun silencers, and even meeting with the late Gary Coleman, though not in a friendly way. Flat2VR shared some of the features that this VR version is adding, including the use of hand gestures that get real-time reactions from NPCs and a new VR inventory system.
With the announcement of Postal 2 VR, the infamous Postal franchise joins the VR gunplay genre, but only time will tell if the game meets players' expectations. While fans wait for an official release date, they can play the 2003 Postal 2 on PC via Steam.
