Halloween is always a fairly busy time for horror video game releases. For quite a few years now, it's been commonplace to see at least one or two major horror games released in October in the lead-up to Halloween, and these bigger titles are often accompanied by at least one or two Indie horror launches. Red Souls Games' Post Trauma is one of this year's Indie Halloween releases.
A throwback to survival horror classics like Resident Evil and even the original Alone in the Dark, Post Trauma has been on many horror fans' radar since its announcement during the 2022 Game Awards. Though it didn't quite make its original launch window of Spring 2024, Post Trauma is finally set to release this October, and that puts it in prime position to be this Halloween's sleeper hit.
October Is A Packed Month for Horror Fans
- Until Dawn Remake - October 4
- Silent Hill 2 Remake - October 8
- Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred - October 8
- A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead - October 17
October is usually a pretty busy month for horror games, and that's especially true this year. October 2024 kicks off with two major horror remakes: Ballistic Moon's Until Dawn and Bloober Team's Silent Hill 2. The original versions of these 2024 horror remakes are considered some of the greatest horror games of all time, and if everything goes to plan, these remakes could be some of the biggest releases this October.
On the same day as Silent Hill 2 Remake's launch, Diablo 4's Vessel of Hatred expansion is also set to hit consoles and PC. Though Diablo 4 isn't a full-blown horror game, it has its fair share of gore and mature themes, and those are elements Vessel of Hatred is doubling down on, with players having to face off against the Demon of Hatred, Mephisto.
On October 17, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is set to continue the month's horror streak. Based on the movie franchise of the same name, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead tells a new story revolving around a woman with asthma who's searching for her family in a post-apocalyptic world where alien monsters use sound to hunt their prey.
Post Trauma Could Be The Sleeper Hit of Halloween 2024
Post Trauma Could Be Hauntingly Good
Set to launch on October 29, 2024, Post Trauma looks like it's shaping up to be the perfect Halloween game. A proud homage to genre-defining games like the original 1996 Resident Evil, Post Trauma is a third-person survival horror game that uses fixed camera angles and puts a strong emphasis on slow-paced exploration, gradual tension-building, and puzzle-solving.
Though Post Trauma's gameplay is a throwback to decades-old horror classics, its presentation is thoroughly modern. Post Trauma has been built using Unreal Engine 5, which ensures its environments look beautifully dark and dingy. Post Trauma will also feature a full voice cast, along with a full score by composer Myuu. Fans of recent throwback horror games like Crow Country should definitely keep their eye on Post Trauma.
Post Trauma's Release Date Puts It In Prime Position for Spooky Season
Though its gameplay and presentation are sure to be the game's biggest draws, Post Trauma's release date has set it up nicely for success this spooky season. As detailed above, early-mid October is going to be a very busy time for horror game releases this year, but that leaves some breathing room towards the end of the month. Post Trauma is capitalizing on this brief break, launching on October 29. This puts it weeks after heavy hitters like Until Dawn and Silent Hill 2, but just two days before Halloween.
