Indie publisher Raw Fury will re-release its classic-style horror game Post Trauma on June 23, after its original launch was overshadowed by the surprise release of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered on April 22. Post Trauma’s developer had a bit of bad luck when choosing the release date for the game, and although Oblivion Remastered was great news for fans, the surprise launch may have impacted the PS2-style horror game’s release numbers.
The PS2 era was a golden age for horror games, with titles that became staples of the genre as well as highly praised releases in the video game industry. Some of the most important were Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 4, Resident Evil 4, Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly, among others. In addition to establishing the genre, these titles also aged well, with many serving as a source of inspiration for developers over the years—and that’s the case with Post Trauma, a puzzle horror game inspired by PS2-era classics. This recently released title offers a retro-focused style with modern improvements, multiple perspectives, and puzzles designed specifically for horror game fans. Even though Post Trauma was good news for fans, its release may have been eclipsed by the shadow drop of Oblivion Remastered.
Post Trauma Could Be the Sleeper Hit of Spooky Season
Post Trauma has been gaining a lot of traction recently, and if everything goes to plan, it could end up being the breakout Indie hit of Halloween.
In a humorous video posted on Twitter, Raw Fury announced that it will “spiritually re-release” Post Trauma on June 23. The video features various development team members joking about the unfortunate timing of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered shadow dropping on the same day they had originally chosen to release Post Trauma. Raw Fury emphasized that during the re-release, there will be giveaways, streams, and celebrations, inviting players to participate in it “once you finish playing Oblivion,” as one dev puts it, while they themselves can be seen playing the remaster in the video.
Post Trauma Re-Releases on June 23
Raw Fury explained that while Post Trauma is re-releasing, it won’t “un-release” before that. The developer’s goal is clearly to wait for the hype surrounding Oblivion Remastered to die down a little, so Post Trauma can gain more visibility.
The remaster of the popular Bethesda game was a pleasant surprise for fans, though the shadow drop of Oblivion Remastered may not have been ideal for a few titles releasing around the same time. Nevertheless, Post Trauma had a positive release, as its current Steam reviews are “Mostly Positive,” with players praising the game’s PS2 style, story, mechanics, and horror experience. Those who haven’t played Post Trauma yet can now wait for its re-release and join the developer in the celebration on June 23.
